I’m always excited when companies send me new products to try and review, and the Studio Gear Modern Classic True Lipsticks were no exception. Six new lipstick colors that are supposed to be long-wearing and flatter all skin tones – who wouldn’t be excited about that?
Brand: Studio Gear
Product: True Lipstick
Studio Gear claims that these Modern Classic True Lipsticks are ultra matte, velvety soft, pigment-rich colors that wear long and stay true. The True Lipsticks come in six shades that are supposed to be perfectly balanced to flatter all skin tones. Studio Gear also boasts that there is minimal color transfer or need to reapply with their True Lipsticks.
Studio Gear recommends lining lips with a concealer or a concealing pencil to keep lipstick within the lips.

Let’s start with the positive. The Studio Gear True Lipsticks do create an ultra-matte look, as promised. Likewise, they are soft with intensely pigmented colors.
The color did last longer than many other glossy lipsticks, which tend to stick to any surface your lips come in contact with such as glassware, other lips, etc. When I wore the True Lipsticks I found they lasted for about 2-3 hours before I needed to reapply.
With six colors to choose from, one of these classics is bound to flatter you no matter what your skin tone. I really liked True Mauve, True Plum, and True Nude.
While the Studio Gear True Lipsticks did live up to their promises, they felt very caked on and drying. I let several of my girlfriends try them on and none of them liked how these matte lipsticks felt on their lips.
I have been a fan of Studio Gear cosmetics and their lipsticks, in particular, for years. However, if I had to choose, I would go with their Complete Color Lipstick collection rather than the True Lipsticks because the Complete Color line is more moisturizing and has more colors to choose from. My favorite is Glazed Plum.
